A call to humanity
by Sandya Ganesh
The painting was made to commemorate Filipino nurses in UK. Their commitment to their patients and profession, even in difficult circumstances with families back home and minimal support, is nothing short of awe-inspiring. It is a real disaster that many died after taking care of Covid wards during the pandemic, especially since their immediate or extended families were far away or could not take care of them!! The central nurse depicts the work they do in NHS despite young family at home. The martyrs at the bottom of the painting represent those who died in the recent years. The background is representative of Filipino art and landscape.
